  VARANO

View of Varano from Catognano View of Varano from Catognano
Varano is a small suburb situated in the high Taverone valley, on the road towards the pass of the Lagastrello and Linari. It was possession of the Estensi family since 1411 till the French Revolution.
Inside the village we find the Romanesque church of Saint Nicola, with a font of sandstone and a beautiful 1394 painting of Angelo Puccinelli, representing the Madonna between Saint Nicola and Saint Lucia by one side and Saint Michele and Saint Agostino by the other.
