THE CASTLE OF MULAZZO

Dante's tower

The castle of Mulazzo has a rectangular base, with the court and a massive tower still intact. For its strategic importance, it was destroyed several times, and the last restructurations dates back to the XVII century. In the site two castles had been risen. The ancient one was probably built with the tower, risen on the way towards the Casoni and the right part of the river Magra. It was abandoned and replaced in the XVI century by a new construction on the opposite part of the village, today disappeared.
Today remain the rests of the great hexagonal tower, the so-called tower of Dante where the great Poet had been host.
