THE TOWER OF GRONDOLA
The tower of Grondola

Grondola is situated on the hill that divides the Verde stream from the Magriola, dominating the way to the Bratello and the Borgallo pass. The castle was an early possession of the Malaspina family from the times of Obizzo "the Big one" in the XI century. For its strategic importance, it was the centre od fights between Piacenza, Pontremoli and Parma. The castle started to lose interest when the pass of Mount Bardone became the preferred way to Tuscany.
Today it remains only the ruins of a tower.
