MIGNEGNO
Mignegno
Mignegno stands at the confluence of the Magriola stream and the Magra river at the end of the hill part of the Way Francigena towards Pontremoli. Here emperor Charles VIII set the field of his army in 1495, while the rearguard set the city of Pontremoli on fire. At the base of the bell tower of the church of Saint Maria Assunta, remembered in a 1187 papal license by Gregorio VII, a tombstone recalls this episode. In the near chestnut trees wood, we find the XVI century Oratory of St. Terenziano. Every September the first takes place the folkloric party of the Saint, also called the "Saint of the fever" for the demand of protection against cholera in the XIX century.
