MONTELUNGO
Montelungo
At the foot of the pass of the Cisa, along the Way Francigena and today the SS 62, an ancient hospital for and travellers was run by the Benedictine monks: the Xenodochio of St. Benedict. The hospital is mentioned by end of the VI century, when it would have been destroyed by the Longobards, and subsequently reconstructed since it is still quoted around the year one Thousand. The "mons longobardorum" preserves today the parish church devoted to the "Madonna della Guardia". Montelungo is also known for the presence of the Virtue Fountains, a water with remarkable therapeutic properties for gout and kidney diseases.
