Chiesa di Rossano

The valley of Rossano is the southernmost of the valleys of Zeri and includes the villages of Piagna, Castoglio, Chioso, Montelama, Chiesa, Paretola, Valle, all close to each other, and Bosco, slightly separated.
The main church of the valley is located in Chiesa di Rossano , formed by a few houses and the nearby cemetery. Dedicated to San Medardo, it was built between 1896 and 1902 on a previous medieval building. Not particularly attractive outside, inside shows instead its beautiful dome and many frescoes.
Before reaching Chiesa di Rossano, the first village is Piagna , stone village with beautiful vaults, sandstone portals, the oratory of Santa Maria Maddalena of 1644. From here you can head to Castoglio or proceed towards Paretola , a small group of houses space with the oratory of San Genesio and then Valle , another small village with the oratory of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Towards Chioso it is located the beautiful church of St. John the Baptist. One of the two bells bears a bas-relief with the name of San Terenziano Bishop and the date 1686, while on the front door is the date 1604.
Montelama is a little over 2 miles from Chiesa di Rossano. The few houses located in the valley of the Teglia ravine, are grouped around the oratory. According to the legend, Montelama’s people are wizards...
From Paretola towards Bosco di Rossano there is the beautiful Colombara waterfall, set in a cave and within easy walking distance. The church is dedicated to San Pellegrino, placed between many depopulated houses.
Castoglio , finally, is reached from Piagna, picturesque village with the oratory of the Visitation of the Seventeenth Century.
