  GIOVAGALLO

Giovagallo Giovagallo
Some villages that form Giovagallo probably rose around the year 1000. In 1202 Giovagallo appears in the "Truffa e Ubaldo lodo", a peace between the Malaspina and the Bishop of Luni. The castle of Giovagallo is more ancient, today covered by vegetation. After the division between the Estensi and the Malaspina at the beginning of the XIII century, in the 1266 the castle passed to Manfredi Malaspina, son of Corrado Ancient of the Spino Secco of Mulazzo, becoming also the gentleman of Lusuolo and Madrignano. In 1282 his son Moroello, remembered by Dante in the Commedia, took his place. The line of Giovagallo extinguished in 1349 with Giovanni. The fief passed then to the marquises of Mulazzo, and then to the Corsini family.
