  IERA

Iera Iera
Iera is located north of Bagnone, on the tall valley of the homonym stream. The parish, devoted to St. Matteo Apostolo, is remembered in a 1296 document. From 1350 to 1750 it belonged to the fief of Treschietto. The actual church was built in 1652, as it testifies a headstone on the portal of the church. The building has a neoclassic façade. Rests of old walls, maybe remind to an old Roman aqueduct, lined up with the old mills, operated by the water of the Bagnone stream. The ancient Jera is situated on the track along the “Salt's Road". Nearby, passing the Bagnone stream towards Compione, the ruins of the castle of Jera are almost totally covered by the vegetation.
