THE CASTLE OF CODIPONTE
The castle of Codiponte

On the top of a hill, in the village of Codiponte, imponent ruins indicate the presence of the castle, once dominanting the passages towards Luni, the mountain and Fivizzano.
The structure of the building is quadrangular, articulated in various inner bodies nearly totally covered from the ruins and the vegetation. In the west part it is still visible the door entrance. The date of
birth of the castle, or its radical rebuilding, goes back to the last period of the Marquis Malaspina of Castel dell’aquila, in 1393, when they substituted the Malaspina of the Verrucola.
