APELLA

The Apella tower

The suburb of Apella is found the slopes of the Apennines, on the northern part of Licciana Nardi together with Taponecco. It is almost abandoned, famous for giving birth to the Risorgimento hero Anacarsi Nardi, shot in Calabria in 1844 with the group of the Bandiera brothers.
Apella has a tower in dominant position and in visual correspondence to those of Varano and Torre Nocciola, on the other bank of the Taverone stream. Today it is a farmhouse.
The church of Saint Maria Assunta was built in on a preexisting church of 1187.
