BASTIA
Bastia is located at the end of a tortuous road that form climbs form Licciana Nardi suburb. Its name comes from the French "bastir", to build, to point out the fortification of the castle and the suburb. The imposing castle of the XVI century was built on the preexisting fortitude of Saint Caterina of the XIII century. It is perfectly preserved, but not visitable. In the castle lived the marquise Anna Malaspina, the marquise's rival Pompaduor of France and under its walls was murdered in 1619 Nestore Malaspina, for the dominion of the fief. Next to the castle we find the small church devoted to St. Jacopo Apostolo.
The fief was independent up to 1783, when for lack of heirs it passed to Claudio Malaspina of Pontebosio.
