CASTEVOLI
Castevoli owes its name to "Casteolo", walled land. Its origin dates back to the Malaspina family, when in 1077 the emperor Arrigo III gave this land to Ugo and Folco of Este consorts of the Malaspinas. In 1221, Castevoli passed to them with the division between the Spino Secco and the Spino Fiorito.
The suburb is characterized by two entrances, one of which preserves a bas-relief in white marble and from a thick cylindrical tower. The castle was perhaps built to control the Roman road to Piacenza. It has been restored many times, in the XVI century by Tommaso II Malaspina and his wife Bianca Sicchi of Aragon. Their child Francesco was the founder of the walled suburb as we see it today. The castle has a great triangular inside court surrounded by the main tower.
