PANICALE
Panicale
Of ancient origin, Panicale dates back to the Oberteghi family period, from where the Malaspinas came. It is first mentioned in 1077, in an donation act of the emperor Arrigo IV to the Estensi. They then passed the fief to the Moregnano of Emilia and in the XII century to the Malaspina. In 1355, Panicale and Licciana formed an only fief under the Medici of Florence. The old castle has today disappeared and and only the ruins of a solid tower can be seen. Between the XV and XVI century, the fortress was turned into a residence by the Medici.
