The villa Brignole-Sale in Gavedo

Gavedo is located on the natural balcony at the slopes of the La Nuda mountain. The suburb is dominated by the medieval castle, with an imposing quadrangular structure. With the the XVIII englobed tower of the Brignole-Sale palace, the "tower of the Sun" and the "turret" along the strema Geriola, it formed a strong fortification in the past.
The fief was property of Azzone Malaspina ini the XV century, then passed to his son-in-law Earl Landi, husband of his daughter Briseide and to the Medici family. In 1592, Franceschino de Medici sold Gavedo to the Genoese Giulio Niccolò Sale, and in 1659 started the Brignole-Sale dynasty with Anton Giulio.
In the suburb we can find the church of Saints Lorenzo and Donnino and the Brignole-Sale villa, of the XVII century, planned by the architect Matteo Vinzoni.
